John Ziraldo, President & CEO

John Ziraldo is the CEO/President of Lighthouse of Oakland County. Mr. Ziraldo previously served as the Director of Programs for The Guidance Center, a comprehensive human service agency offering more than 40 behavior health programs in southern Wayne County. He served as the Thompson-McCully Foundation’s first Executive Director from 2000 to 2003 and oversaw its operations and grant making programs. The Foundation seeks to help low-income people rise out of poverty and become self-sufficient.  In its first 2 years of operations, the Foundation approved 134 grants totaling $13 million to nonprofit organizations across southeast Michigan. The Foundation was recognized by the Association of Fundraising Executives as the Outstanding Foundation of the Year in 2002. Mr. Ziraldo also served as Senior Program Officer at the Skillman Foundation, the largest philanthropy in Michigan with a primary focus on the needs of children.  In his eleven years at Skillman, Mr. Ziraldo developed and oversaw the Foundation’s public school reform initiatives and helped the Foundation become the philanthropic leader for public school reform in Detroit.
Mr. Ziraldo has served as a member of the Michigan Workforce Action Network, an advisory body created to reshape Michigan’s welfare reform and workforce development programs. He serves as the Board Chair for the Greater Detroit Network for Social Innovators and is a member several other nonprofit boards, including United Way for Southeastern Michigan, New Detroit, Inc. and Crossroads of Michigan.  Mr. Ziraldo received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Sacred Heart Seminary and his Master of Public Administration from the University of Michigan. He is life long Detroit resident and active community volunteer. Mr. Ziraldo has more than twelve years experience as a coach in youth hockey and baseball leagues in Detroit.


Sharman Davenport, Ph.D., Vice President of Programs

Sharman Davenport is the Vice President of Programs for Lighthouse of Oakland County. She has been with Lighthouse since 1999.  Dr. Davenport has a Ph.D. in  Clinical Psychology from Wayne State University.  Prior to being named as Vice President of Programs, Dr. Davenport was the executive director of Lighthouse PATH. Under her leadership at PATH, more than 900 women and 2,500 children received the help needed to become self-sufficient, confident, productive members of the community, build successful careers and safe stable living situations. 

In her role as Vice President of Programs, Dr. Davenport is working directly with the executive directors for Lighthouse Community Development, Lighthouse Emergency Services and Lighthouse PATH improving the quality and impact of the programs and services offered to individuals and families that seek Lighthouse's assistance.

 

 


Laurie Horvath, Board of Trustees Chair

Laurie Horvath is an audit manager for Doeren Mayhew in Troy, Michigan and has over eighteen years public accounting experience, specializing in not-for-profit accounting. Her public accounting experience includes 4 years in a National Office role at a Big 4 firm working on international auditing and  accounting curriculum and 5 years at a regional firm as the Director of Assurance Training and Education. Laurie has 15 years of non-for-profit and benefit plan experience as well as technical reviewer of financial statements. Laurie also chairs the Doeren Mayhew Women’s Initiative. She specializes in not-for-profit and privately held companies and sits on the NonProfit Organization Expert Panel for the AICPA.

She is a graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and has an MBA from Michigan State University specializing in Finance and Accounting. She is the mom of four young children who are also volunteers at Lighthouse of Oakland County. Laurie serves as the Treasurer of the St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital Foundation and the Abbott Middle School PTO. She served as the past president of the Junior League of Birmingham.
